This is one of my favourites, along with The White Dragon and All the Weyrs of Pern. McCaffrey really does get this book zinging along and I don’t think there’s any bits in it I need to skip – there are in most of her other ones. Her writing is good, succinct, no extras but quite enough for the reader to know just what’s happening.
Menolly (the heroine) is a character I can feel into, I’m not sure I’d want her as a friend but I can appreciate her :-). Come to think of it I don’t think I’d want any of McCaffrey’s female characters as a friend! The only characters I could possibly live with are Robinton and Jaxom 🙂
My paperback copy of Dragonsinger is quite dog-eared with reading and it’s now on my Kindle too … that’s a guide to how much I like something!
