The Scottish Wildcat is Britain’s rarest animal and rarer than the Amar tiger. Interbreeding with domestic cats – who likely came from the Indian and Egyptian cats, with the Romans – and habitat loss have contributed to their near extinction. And probably the depredations of gamekeepers :-(.
Some wildcats live at the Highland Wildlife Park where scientists watch and observe them to try to help them re-establish in the wild. The Cairngorm Wildcat Project is doing all it can to help the wildcats. If you’re interested go support them.
